You may be asked to verify your identity when applying for a Neo product.

There may also be occasions when the Neo team will request you to verify your photo ID to ensure the safety and security of your account.

It only takes 2 minutes to verify your identity. You just need to take a photo of your ID and a real-time photo of yourself.

How do we verify your identity?

You’ll be asked to take a photo of your photo ID and a real-time photo of yourself, which is then compared with your ID to ensure it’s the real you.

Your photos will only be stored for 90 days.

Steps to verify your identity

When applying for a product

  • Choose your ID
  • Tap camera to take a photo of your ID
  • Tap camera to take a photo of yourself
  • You’ve verified your identity

If requested through ‌email

  • Tap on Verify your identity in the email
  • Choose ID from the given options
  • Select Use my camera, then tap Take photo to capture a photo of your ID
  • Select Use my camera, then tap Take photo to capture a photo of yourself
  • You’ve verified your identity

You may be asked to re-take the photos again if your ID is not readable, ID type didn’t match, or ID is expired.

Take photos of your ID and yourself in good lighting conditions.

Information on photo IDs

Valid IDs types

We only currently accept valid Canadian IDs, but we’re looking forward to adding more acceptable IDs soon. 

  • Canadian passport
  • Provincial driver’s licence
  • Provincial identification card
  • Canadian permanent resident card
  • British Columbia Services Card
  • Canadian Certificate of Indian Status
  • Canadian Citizenship Card (from before 2012)

Apply with a foreign ID

We currently don’t accept any international ID types. If you apply with a foreign passport, your verification won’t be successful.

Apply with an expired ID

If your photo ID is expired, you may be requested to provide a secondary ID type. It’s better to ensure that your ID is up-to-date before you apply.

You will receive an email if a secondary ID is required. Check your email regularly for any updates from Neo Financial.
