Close your account

You can close your credit cards or accounts from the Neo app or website. 

Close your credit card

Log in to the Neo app or website to close your credit card. If you want to temporarily pause your card, you can freeze your card so it can't be used until you unfreeze it.

Neo app

1. Log in to the Neo app
2. In the Accounts tab, select your credit card
3. Tap Manage (top right of the screen)
4. Scroll down and select Close account

Web

1. Log in to member.neofinancial.com
2. Select Credit from the left-side menu
3. Select the account you'd like to close
4. Click on the three dots in the top-right corner
5. Select Close Account and follow the on-screen instructions

If you have a negative balance (overpayments or refunds) on your account, chat with us and we can ensure your funds are sent to you.

Close your secured credit card

You can withdraw your security fund when closing your account as long as there is no outstanding balance on your account.

Neo app

1. Log in to the Neo app
2. In the Accounts tab, select your credit card
3. Tap Manage (top right of the screen)
4. Scroll down and select Close account

Web

1. Log in to member.neofinancial.com

3. Select the account you'd like to close
4. Click on the three dots in the top-right corner
5. Select Close Account and follow the on-screen instructions

After a credit card is closed

You can still view the statements and account information for a closed credit card and for a secured credit card. Auto-Pay will be disabled and any transactions associated with your credit card will be declined.

Close your Neo Everyday account

Neo Everyday accounts can only be closed if:

• Funds, including any accrued interest, are withdrawn to a Neo Savings, Neo High-Interest Savings account, or an external bank
• There aren’t any pending deposits
• The account balance is $0

1. Log in to the Neo app
2. In the Accounts tab, select your account
3. Tap Manage (top right of the screen)
4. Scroll down and select Close account

3. Select your account, then click on the three-dot icon
4. Select Close account and follow the on-screen instructions

After a Neo Everyday account is closed

You can still view the statements and tax forms for a closed Neo Everyday account. Any deposits to the account will be declined and the funds will be returned to the original account.

If you still have a remaining balance after closing your credit account, you’ll need to pay it off. Interest will keep accruing on that remaining balance until it’s fully paid. If you don’t pay the remaining balance, your account may become delinquent.

Close a Neo Savings account

You can close a Neo Savings account from the Neo app or website. Before closing your account, make sure that:

• Your account balance isn’t less than $0.00
• Your account balance is below $1,000
• There aren’t any pending transactions 

You’ll need to withdraw any remaining balance to another Neo Money account or an external bank.

3. Tap Manage (top right of the screen)
4. Scroll down and select Close account

After a Neo Savings account is closed

You can still view the statements and tax forms for a closed Neo Savings account. Any deposits sent to a closed account will be declined, and the funds returned to the original source.

Close a Neo High-Interest Savings account

You can close a Neo High-Interest Savings account from the Neo app or website. Before closing your account, make sure that:

• Your account balance isn’t less than $0.00
• Your account balance is below $1,000
• There aren’t any pending transactions 

You’ll need to withdraw any remaining balance to another Neo Money account or an external bank.

After a Neo High-Interest Savings account is closed

You can still view the statements and tax forms for a closed Neo High-Interest Savings account. Any deposits sent to a closed account will be declined, and the funds returned to the original source.

Close a Neo Invest account

To close your Neo Invest account, you can close any investment goals that are active.

Neo app

1. Log in to the Neo app
2. In the Accounts tab, go to Invest
3. Select an investment goal
4. Tap the three-dot icon (top right corner)
5. Select Close goal

Web

1. Log in to member.neofinancial.com
2. Select Invest from the left-side menu
3. Select an investment goal
4. Tap the three-dot icon (top right corner)
5. Select Close goal

Data retention requirements

To meet Canada's anti-money laundering and terrorist financing regulations, Neo is required to maintain certain records for a minimum of 5 years. We aren't able to delete your data. All data will be securely stored and then deleted according to the legal requirements. Here's more information about the regulations and how Neo manages your data.
