Tap limits were increased to $400

Tap limits for Neo credit cards and the Neo Money card were updated in January 2026 to $400.

Updated this week

You can now tap your Neo credit and Neo Money card for purchases of up to $400, where supported by the merchant.

This increase to tap limits helps make everyday purchases faster and reduces how often you need to insert your card at checkout.

Some merchants may have lower tap limits

Merchants can set their own tap (contactless) payments. If a merchant has a lower tap limit, you may be asked to insert your card and enter your PIN. This is normal and doesn’t mean there’s an issue with your card.

If tap isn’t available, you can insert your card and enter your PIN.

Frequently asked questions

What's my tap limit?

Tap limits for all Neo cards (including Neo credit cards and the Neo Money card) is $400 (where supported by the merchant).

For some tap purchases over $250, you may be asked to enter your PIN without inserting your card.

Why am I sometimes asked to enter my PIN when I tap?

Most tap (contactless) payments don’t require a PIN. In some cases, the payment terminal may prompt you to enter your PIN for added security.

Can I lower my tap limit?

At this time, tap limits can’t be customized. If you prefer not to tap, you can always insert your card and enter your PIN to complete a purchase.

Why does tap work at some merchants but not others?

Each merchant uses its own payment terminal, and some terminals have lower contactless limits than others.

Even though your card supports tap payments up to $400, a terminal may require you to insert your card and enter your PIN. This doesn’t mean there’s an issue with your card.

What happens if my card is lost or stolen?

If your card is lost or stolen, freeze it right away in the Neo app or website to prevent further use. Here’s what to do if your card was lost or stolen.
